Shepherding Clients into New Categories with a Point of Difference

THE CHALLENGE

Bolthouse Farms needed ideas for innovative products that would drive incremental growth beyond their fresh carrot and fresh juice businesses. The company’s distribution in the refrigerated produce aisle offered a unique opportunity to leverage fresh ingredients.

OUR WORK

Given the rapid category growth and consumers’ health perception of yogurt, we identified an opportunity to create a line of creamy salad dressings made from yogurt. We formulated the original four SKUs and assisted in the scale-up.

THE RESULT

Bolthouse Farms launched its line of Creamy Yogurt Dressings in 2008 and started an avalanche of competition. Four years later, Bolthouse Farms was acquired by Campbell Soup Company.
