TURNING A FAVORITE HOME RECIPE INTO A VIABLE SNACK BUSINESS

THE CHALLENGE

Ro Chiu loved sharing her furikake seaweed snack mix with friends and family. It was so popular that people began requesting it all the time. Ro saw this as an opportunity to bring her addictive snack mix to the masses.

OUR WORK

Mattson began product development to turn this home recipe into a viable product protocept. On a parallel path, we also began ideating around a brand name that spoke to the fun snackability of the product and harkened back to Ro’s upbringing in Hawaii. Our recommendation, LoloYum, means “crazy delicious” in Hawaiian. Ro loved it, so we began designing the brand identity and package graphics to bring it to life. Finally, we identified a copacker and led the scale up to get 3 SKUs fully commercialized.

THE RESULT

The brand new brand LoloYum launched their first product, a Furikake Seaweed Snack Mix, in August 2018.
